Dental implants are one of the many dental services offered in Dr Leventhal's dental office.  A dental implant is an artificail tooth root.  This tooth root is is surgically anchored into the jaw to secure a crown or bridge in place.  Dental implants are ideal for missing teeth because they look and feel natural, and function like natural teeth.  They are stable, permanent and do not rely on neighboring teeth for support.  Implants can be made from several different types of metallic and ceramic materials which are compatible with body tissue

Implants are a great solution for patients who can not wear dentures.  They are strategically placed in the jaw to support permanently cemented bridges.  When jaw structure is limited, a custom metal framework can be fitted directly on the existing bone.

Implant procedures can be performed with local anesthesia in the dentist's office. The patient can be given a sedative to aid in relaxation, and an anesthetic to numb the area around the implant site. Once the patient is fully relaxed and numbed, Dr. Leventhal will perform surgery to anchor the artificial root into the patient's jawbone.  The actual healing process can take several months.  Once the implant site is fully healed, Dr. Leventhal will then fit and secure the replacement teeth or bridge to the artificial root.
